University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center selects Thornberry’s NDoc, abandons paper system.

Fastrack partners with CPAP product distributor for direct-to-patient supply shipping.

CellTrak to resell its mobile telephony system throughout Canada via alliance with Canadian technology implementation services provider TELUS Health Solutions. UMass Memorial abandons paper.
LANCASTER, PA – Thornberry Ltd. has announced the selection of its NDoc home care software by the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center. UMass Memorial Home Health and Hospice, based in Worcester, will use the new platform for point-of-care, billing and operations with its 90 clinicians and 20 office staff.

“Currently, our paper-based process requires tremendous clinical supervisory time and expense to find and correct documentation inconsistencies,” commented Mary Stone, Director of Operations for UMass Memorial Home Health and Hospice. She added her expectation that, if NDoc nearly eliminates these time-consuming tasks, as she has been told it will, UMass Memorial clinical supervisors will be free to focus on more strategic activities. “We also chose NDoc because of its extensive, real-time edit checks as clinicians are charting on point-of-care laptops,” she added.

UMass Memorial Home Health and Hospice is accredited by the Joint Commission and certified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. It provides skilled nursing, therapy and health education programs that help prevent future hospitalizations and offer patients an opportunity for early hospital discharge. UMass Memorial Home Health was recently named to the 2009 HomeCare Elite. The agency ranked in the top 25 percent of home health providers nationally for quality performance in outcomes and improvement by HomeCare Elite in each of the past four years. The agency will implement NDoc this spring.

Strategic alliance will benefit HME providers and patients, new partners say.
PLAINVIEW, NY – Fastrack Healthcare Systems and cpapdropship.com announced a strategic alliance designed to automate the shipping of CPAP products directly to patients, to reduce operating costs for providers and improve patient compliance.

Fastrack president Spencer Kay said the two companies’ software systems have been successfully integrated, allowing HME provider companies to send orders and patient information directly from the Fastrack system to cpapdropship.com’s software for same-day shipping.

According to cpapdropship.com General Manager Jason Holzman, “Following up with CPAP patients is a time consuming and costly expense to any HME [provider]. Turning their follow-up service into a program that improves compliance and increases revenue can be even more challenging.”

cpapdropship.com trains sleep specialists – experts in troubleshooting over the phone – and sends out supplies to OSA patients. Holzman added that the program successfully combats patient tendencies toward non-compliance. “Numerous studies show that over 50% of CPAP patients are non-compliant after the first year of treatment,” he said. By focusing on long-term compliance, patient education and sending replacement supplies every three months, his company has been able to report higher rates of patient compliance. “Which provides a HME company with increased CPAP revenue,” he emphasized.

The cpapdropship.com system includes consolidated monthly supply order shipments, same-day shipping, name brand CPAP masks and accessories, mixing and matching of different manufacturers’ masks, filters, chinstraps, chambers and tubing, plus custom branding on packing slips to keep the HME provider’s identity in the forefront. Holzman mentioned that long-term contracts are not required.

Alliance with Procura will see CellTrak system in use throughout Canada.
SCHAUMBURG, IL – Mobile point-of-care telephone vendor CellTrak, has announced a strategic partnership with home care software vendor Procura and Canadian technology implementation specialist TELUS Health Solutions (THS) to offer its mobile healthcare system from coast to Canadian coast. The CellTrak cell phone-based software system will be branded TELUS MobileCare in Canada.

The enterprise partnership with THS allowed CellTrak to finish 2009 by adding new home and community care agencies with hundreds of offices to their client list, expanding CellTrak’s footprint in Canada to hundreds of offices and thousands of field staff across all 13 provinces and territories. The CellTrak system eliminates paper for mobile caregivers reporting visit activity and time and attendance.

When it offers full interoperability with back-end clinical systems, as it does with Procura software, the CellTrack system helps improve care delivery. Procura president Warren Brown commented on the Illinois company’s quality product, timely services and full interoperability with his system. “They are the market leader in installed solutions with a sustainable business model that has and will continue to keep pace with the ever changing needs of our sector,” Brown opined.

THS plans to officially launch the service this month as TELUS MobileCare, cementing CellTrak’s position as the telephony vendor with the largest install base in Canada. CellTrak CEO Michael Wons stated that the company’s Canadian efforts and decision to work with leading healthcare solution providers such as Procura and TELUS will enable it to expand into electronic health record solutions and other services.
