Cardiocom® is a Twin Cities-based telehealth systems manufacturer and software developer that is rapidly expanding from its roots as a cardiac telehealth company to a full-service innovator with products across the home telehealth spectrum. This week, the company brought HCTR Vendor Watch’s attention to three important announcements made in recent days.

Automated Interface to Thornberry’s NDoc® Home Health & Hospice Software

Cardiocom now provides a two-way interface between its Omnivisor Pro software and Thornberry’s clinical software, NDoc®, a point-of-care and billing system for hospice and home health agencies.

Twin Tier Home Health of Vestal, NY is the first joint customer to actively implement this new interface tool, which provides proactive management and customize patient care. Every day, Twin Tier patients use the Cardiocom Commander Telehealth System to communicate with a Twin Tier telehealth nurse. The system guides the patient through an interactive health check and collecting vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and heart rate. This information is immediately available for review in the Twin Tier headquarters.

The software interface allows demographic data to flow from the NDoc system once a patient is enrolled in telehealth. Twin Tier field staff have access to daily vital sign data, symptom information and clinical notes from the telehealth nurse directly in their NDoc patient record. Access to this data on a daily basis allows Twin Tier field staff to make better decisions based on objective telehealth information, significantly improving the time it takes to make timely interventions, such as medication adjustments.

“The goals for Twin Tier’s telehealth program are to improve patient care, decrease hospitalizations and increase agency efficiency,” stated Jill Cunningham, RN, BSN, Nurse Coordinator at Twin Tier Home Health. “Thornberry’s and Cardiocom’s ability to develop a software interface to help us achieve these goals adds great value to our agency, our telehealth program and ultimately to our patients.”

“One way that we continue to offer outstanding service to our customers is to join forces with award-winning companies like Cardiocom,” said Tom Peth, President of Thornberry Ltd. “A core benefit of NDoc is its capability to achieve tight integration with external systems, connecting customers with the full continuum of healthcare providers and services. By partnering with a telehealth leader, our customers will improve outcomes and increase clinical efficiencies.”

“Cardiocom is excited about providing a seamless telehealth data interface to Thornberry’s NDoc system,” added Daniel L. Cosentino, CEO and President of Cardiocom. “Real-time telehealth data enhances Twin Tier’s ability to intervene early and avoid unnecessary hospitalizations.”

Automated Interface to ContinuLink Application

Cardiocom® has also announced a new business development relationship with ContinuLink Health Technologies to provide an integrated telehealth solution. Cardiocom’s Omnivisor Pro software application and web-based ContinuLink application can be directly integrated to bring forward a single point of access for the telehealth clinician.

With the integrated solution developed by Cardiocom and ContinuLink, users are able to work directly with the ContinuLink System to gain instant access to telehealth data available in Cardiocom’s system. The user experience is greatly improved and efficiency is optimized by allowing the user to seamlessly work in one system.

“The best way for us to continue to provide outstanding service to our customers is to integrate our software with award-winning companies in the industry,” said Satish Movva, CEO of ContinuLink. “Changes in Health Care Reform in 2010 mean agencies are looking even more closely at reducing acute care hospitalization rates for patients with chronic diseases.”

“Cardiocom CEO Daniel L. Cosentino added, “We are delighted to be partnering with ContinuLink. ContinuLink is a premier home care software company that is strategically positioned for significant growth.”

Cardiocom Extends Telehealth Platform with New Pulse Oximeter

Finally, Cardiocom has introduced its own, internally developed pulse oximeter. The company designs and manufactures telehealth communication devices and vital sign peripherals and believes integrating its own pulse oximeter offers better integration with its telehealth platform. The new device is specifically suited for the home telehealth environment and was registered with the FDA in late 2009.

“Cardiocom’s segmented telehealth device platforms and vital sign monitoring peripherals provide a highly efficient and effortless user experience,” says Cosentino. “Vertical integration ensures customers the highest quality, custom telehealth solutions at an affordable cost.”
